Meet Genesis’ New, Rather Orange Nürburgring Taxi
If you’re heading to the Nürburgring for the first time, one of the best ways to experience the Green Hell is in the seat of a taxi. No, not a Toyota Prius with a £50 fee for dropping your kebab in the back, but rather a hot lap sitting beside a driver with thousands of laps of the 14-mile circuit.
Usually, this will be in something rather fruity and often German, like a BMW M5 or some form of Porsche. There’s a rather unexpected face now offering its services up, though, with Genesis choosing to introduce a taxi of its own.
It’s not without reason that the Hyundai Motor Group’s flagship brand has arrived on the doorstep of its German rivals though, as it currently tries to shout about Magma – its BMW M, Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS-rivalling brand.
Only, it hasn’t rocked up to the ‘Ring with some new high-performance saloon you’ll be able to buy right away. Rather, its first taxi is a relatively tame G70 equipped with a 3.3-litre, 368bhp twin-turbo V6. Punchy, but not exactly the tyre-shredding figures you’d perhaps expect.
On the topic of tyres, though, Genesis has partnered with Michelin for all of its taxis to use Pilot Sport 4S rubber, so that’s something. There are a few light mechanical changes as well with revisions to the car’s damper settings and additional brake ducts to keep the discs from cooking. Oh, and it’s wearing a rather orange wrap to shout about Magma.
Presumably, once we get the first properly-available fruit of the Magma brand, we’ll see Genesis swap the G70 out for something a bit punchier.
There has already been confirmation of an extremely limited-run G80 Magma for the Middle East, but its first car available in Europe is expected to be a production version of the GV60 Magma concept revealed earlier this year.
