This Is Novitec’s 856bhp Take On The Ferrari 296 GTS
If you’ve been holding off on sinking your hard-earned money into Novitec’s reworked Ferrari 296 GTB in the hope of a drop-top version, today is your lucky day. The German tuner has just released a suite of upgrades for the GTS.
Really, there’s not much in the way of ‘new’ here, with the upgrades from the hard-top Berlinetta transplanted onto the convertible version. Not that we’ll be complaining on that front.
That means the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6’s power has been cranked up to 691bhp from the 654bhp it leaves the factory with, which, paired up with its electric motor, results in a total of 856bhp. The increase from the F163 unit comes courtesy of ‘high-efficiency’ turbo inlets and a Novitec-produced stainless steel exhaust system.
As with the GTB, there’s no official word from Novitec on how it affects the 296 GTS’ on-paper figures but expect an improvement on its 2.9-second 0-62mph sprint and with its 205mph top speed achieved a little easier.
Visual changes match that of the coupe as well. Alloy wheel specialist Vossen has been roped in for a new set of wheels for the car, measuring 21 inches at the front and 22 at the rear.
A subtle but effective carbon fibre bodywork package has been added, too, which sees a new splitter, extended side skirts and a ducktail spoiler made from the material. You can add further to that with carbon mirror cabs, air inlets and an engine bay cover.
You can have some chassis tweaks as well, with suspension kits ranging from ride height dropping coils to a full KW hydraulic system available through the firm.
As with the GTB, Novitec doesn’t list a price for Ferrari 296 GTS upgrades. File this one as yet another case of “if you need to ask…”
