Porsche 718 Cayman S Vs Audi TT RS: Which Gets Your Vote?

The new Cayman S and TT RS - two arch rivals - were revealed within hours of each other. Which would you have, given the chance?
Porsche 718 Cayman S Vs Audi TT RS: Which Gets Your Vote?

The Porsche 718 Cayman S and Audi TT RS seem to be offering the same thing. Both are very fast coupes, and both will cost you around £50,000. Well, we think: the Porsche is £48,834, and the TT RS is expected to be around the same if not a smidge more.

However, what’s interesting is the two go about the whole fast thing in very different ways. The Audi is front-engined and four-wheel drive, while the Porsche is mid-engined and rear-wheel drive. The Audi is significantly more powerful and faster, putting out 395bhp to the Cayman’s 345, and hits 62mph from rest in just 3.7 seconds compared to 4.2 in the Porsche.

The Audi will also sound better thanks to having a turbocharged inline-five engine (the Cayman makes do with a turbo flat-four), and be more practical thanks to having a pair of - admittedly small - seats in the back.

Then again, the mid-engined Cayman will almost certainly be the more engaging of the two to drive, and can be bought with a manual, unlike the dual-clutch auto-only TT.

So, bearing all that in mind, which would you prefer? Get voting!

Would rather a used R8 V8 or 981 Cayman GTS tbh. Not as quick, but a more emotional overall experience for sure. Modern ‘performance’ cars are too synthesized.

“The Audi will also sound better thanks to having a turbocharged inline-five engine (the Cayman makes do with a turbo flat-four)” What!? WHAT!? Hahaha. But I <3 boxer 4’s. Likely equal length headers, in which case the point is valid.

Ha! To be fair the 718 Boxster sounded a lot better than I expected. But c’mon, how can you not love five-pots??

I don’t care as long it has a boxer engine and a manual gearbox. ;)

This was actually a tough choice.

I live in the north and want to go fast all of the year so a TTRS is more usable. With a Haldex Performance mod the understeer won’t be a big problem.

But a manual Cayman is my choice. It just looks so good and I imagine the manual gearbox is fantastic!

It wouldn’t be a problem in high speed corners, but unless you could include torque vectoring into that AWD mod, it would still be a problem in tight corners at the limit.

I like the porsche because of the boxer, but I like AWD. The choice is killing me…
