Quiche's 10 Most Favorite Racing Cars
This list consist of my own personal favorite race cars from over the years whether it be on success, or just how cool looking they are.
This list consist of my own personal favorite race cars from over the years whether it be on success, or just how cool looking they are.
10: Zakspeed Capri
This 4th generation Group 5 car is an instant classic, despite being beaten on numerous occasions by the likes of the BMW CSL and the 320 Turbo, it did win the 1981 Group 5 Championship with Klaus Ludwig in a Wurth sponsered Capri (Similar to the car above)
9: Audi Quattro Rally Car
Had it not been for this car, WRC would be a totally different Ball park, this in my opinion is the most legendary Rally car to ever compete, this made WRC what it is today. Racking up 2 WRC constructors championships and drivers Championships in the hands of Hannu Mikkola and Stig Blomqvist makes this a mighty car.
8: Volvo 850 R Estate
Before the Honda Civic Estate touring car which ran in the 2014 BTCC championship, there was the Volvo 850 R that ran for a season in the 1994 Championship. Despite the ambitious attempts, the car didn’t perform very well, despite scoring points on numerous occasions, the car could only acheive a 5th place finish for both Swede Rikard Rydell and Dutchman Jan Lammers, and, like the Civic Tourer, it was a one season wonder.
7: Mercedes-Benz 190 E Evolution II
Belive it or not, the 190E Evo was actually designed for rallying purpose, but with BMWs recent Success in the world of touring cars, Mercedes wanted a slice of that cake instead. The car took Klaus Ludwig to the 1992 drivers championship, as well as winning 2 constructors championship, before being replaced by the W202 Class in 1994.
6: Audi 90 Quattro IMSA
Hands down the most badass Audi race car to ever be created, this 750bhp 4WD monster of a car gave Hans-Joachim Stuck 7 race wins in the 1989 IMSA championship out in the states. The car gripped like crap on a shovel and looke ferocious. I’m pretty sure if this came charging up my behind on the track, I’d move out of its way.
5: Castrol Tom's Supra
As some of you may know, I’m not a huge fan of JDM cars, but this one makes an exception, I’ve always loved the Castrol colours on the toyotas, whether it was on the Celica rally car or the Corolla Rally car, it always looked menacing on the Supra that ran in the Japanese GT championship, this car also bought memories of my childhood when this was in the Gran Turismo series, so for nostalgia reasons, it in the list.
4: Mclaren MP4/4
Even if you hate F1 with a passion, you cannot deny the McLaren MP4/4 is the greatest F1 car to have raced, winning all but one race in the famous 1988 season, it is the greatest race car to come out of Woking. running a Turbocharged 1.5l V6 Honda unit connected to the chassis created by one Gordon Murray, the car was destined to be a successful car, and it bought Ayrton Senna his 1st F1 world championship. And yet this years McLaren Honda engine just didn’t work, I suggest painting it this colours next year McLaren, give it that exta HP it desperately needs.
4: Any JPS coloured Lotus
When “Lotus” and “F1” come to mind, we all think “John Player Special”. The Black and Gold livery is by far the most well known livery throughout F1 (excluding Ferrari of course.) the colourscheme ran with Lotus for 14 years from 1972 on the Type 72 to 1986 on the 98T.
3: Subaru Impreza WRC
When I was growing up, Colin McRae was a familiar name in my household, me and my dad would sit and watch the WRC and our hero race through the stages around the globe, we would sit and race each other on Colin Mcrae Rally, and I always got to drive this very car. Easily one of the most iconic rally cars around, in terms of legendary, its up there with the Audi Quattro and Lancia Delta. McRae took 15 victories in the Impreza winning the 1995 WRC championship. If you ever get the chance, I seriously suggest watching Chris Hoy’s racing legends: Colin McRae, its a real touching documentary on what an influence Colin had become to so many people and fans.
2: Ford Falcon V8 "Green Eyed Monster"
This one’s for you Australia. Ever since I first saw this car in TOCA: Race Driver, I was a boy in love, the reason? them headlights. Craig Lowndes pretty much became famous for driving this car. I will never forget the day I saw this at Goodood going up the hill, it really is a jaw dropping car.
1: Ford GT40 Gulf
One does not simply deny this as having the greatest livery ever. This really kills two birds with one stone. Great car, Great results, and a great livery. Just when everyone thought no one could stop Ferrari winning in Le Mans, out from over the pond came the Ford GT40, and straight away gave the Maranello squad a typical yankee kick in the nuts by stealing the Iconic Le Mans 24hrs trophy, and kept it for 4 years in a row! How can a car nearly 50 years old still look this good in that colourscheme?
I really do hope you enjoyed my top 10 list, like I said these are my personal favorite race cars, comment yours below and see if we have similar taste
