Someone's Already Working On A 2JZ-Powered A90 Toyota Supra
It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? Hopefully silencing all those keyboard warriors who - for some reason - thought it was feasible for Toyota to design, engineer and sell a brand-new powered by a near-30-year-old engine, a 2JZ-powered A90 Supra is actually happening.
The car is being built at D1 GP drifter Daigo Saito’s Fat Five Racing in the Greater Tokyo Area. You might remember a rear-while drive, drift-spec Lamborghini Murcielago from the same brilliantly mad people.
The 2JZ straight-six in question displaces 3352cc and will be good for around 800bhp. Other modifications will include a widebody kit, and inevitably, all the usual drift car accouterments like a hydraulic handbrake and a big increase in steering angle. We’re expecting HKS to have some involvement with the car, the Japanese firm having supplied suspension components and other parts for some of Saito’s previous projects.
We won’t have to wait that long until we see the finished article, either: the car - thought to be the world’s first drift-spec A90 GR Supra - will make its debut at the D1GP All Star Shootout on 23 March in Odaiba, Tokyo.
We’ve no doubt how much it’ll cost to build, but whatever the figure, it’s going to work out better value than a $173,600 A80 Supra.

I think the reason is because the A90 just came out and if he wants to use the chassis, there isn’t as big of an aftermarket for the new Supra engine
I think it’s mostly because not many people have gotten the chance to mod them yet.
i think that the stock engine could manage this amount of power with ease
just because its aluminium doesnt mean it will break like cream crackers
It’s not the actual engine they want, it’s the 2jz label because muh capable of 2000hp stock
B58 is better than 2JZ
Change my mind.
The 2JZ is tougher lol
Yeah no shit, it’s 25 years more modern, of course it’s better. Would be pathetic if that weren’t the case if you ask me.
talking to the upper mentioned keyboard warriors, with a bored tone Happy now?
This dude’s a bloody legend
gasp I am shocked!
The hero we need!
The hero we deserve !
tbh I was expecting it to happen a bit sooner than this
It was only a matter of time :))) Really
I love this man. But I mean, nearly 30-year old engine in a 2019 car. I thought the Japanese were all for innovation. But I agree with Daigo. A BMW engine in a Toyota doesn’t sound good. But it is innovation. But it’s ok. I have no objections.
