Watch An E46 BMW M3 Driver Get Caught Out By A Slow Moving Porsche Cayman At The 'Ring

In a classic example of the perils of the Nurburgring touristenfahrten, it looks like this BMW driver is completely caught out by the slower moving Cayman up ahead, leading to a spin followed by a hefty Armco hit

Ideally we’d like to see exactly what happened just before this video started, but it certainly looks like the E46 driver came in too hot, misjudging the speed of the sedately driven Porsche Cayman. Proceedings go south when he clips the grass while braking, sending the M3 into a perilous spin.

What’s your armchair analysis?

The day that a Nurburgring event doesnt have a crash is the day that the Mclaren P1 will finally be mine

If only the BMW driver had used his blinker this could’ve been avoided

Porsche should’ve stayed on the right.
Poor BMW driver.

Even I felt bad about it and I don’t even like BMWs! Just a really unlucky end. Hope he can sort it out without having to scrap it

I think the BMW’s weight was completely on the right (obviously since he was making a left turn), and as he braked to not hit the Porsche, the rear kicked out (that technique is used in drifting), then he over-corrected it, the rear wheels hit the grass and it was all over.

The Porsche was in the middle of the track but had every right to be given he wouldn’t have seen the BMW when he moved over to take the wet line.

The BMW was going way too fast for the conditions, on touristenfahrten. Touching the kerbing in the wet will almost always result in over-rotation. If his speed was appropriate he would have seen he was gaining on the Porsche and slowed accordingly.

I’d say they both could have done better avoiding this wreck. Approaching the Adenauer Forst at this speed on Touristenfahrten requires some real confidence, but you cant expect the people around you to be that aware and handle situations like this right.

So I’ve seen 2 Porsche’s slow down and crash a BMW, I’m expecting a 3rd now.

Next time the BMW driver will know better: don’t brake for stupidly slow cars, just collect them. It should teach them a lesson about staying on the racing line while driving like grandma.
