Uhhhh… the message I get is have mechanical sympathy for your gearbox and clutch but jerk your handbrake up and across the ratchet instead of using the button on the end of the handbrake.

Theoretically speaking, on a hill couldn’t I put the clutch to the biting point and then add gas without rolling back? I do this a lot in my car and I feel like it works just as well as using the hand brake. Maybe you covered this, but I am very tired and can barely think at the moment. Thanks for reading!

If you don’t like your clutch, go ahead and to it. But it burns out the clutch really fast. That’s why you should use the e-brake

In the UK where nearly everyone does their driving test in a manual you are taught to always take the car out of gear and apply the handbrake when stopped. You should not leave your foot on the brake as you will blind others behind you.You also fail your driving test straight away if you roll back even a few millimetres during a hill start.

I think number five doesn’t make sense in turbo charged cars. I drive turbo diesel, I rarely go over 3000 :D it has max torque at 1750 and give me power from 1100. Ofcourse i don’t let my engine suffer.

Besides, that’s one of the reasons we rev match besides for a smooth shift

I put my hand on the gear lever everytime i drive….. the armrest in the middle takes all the pressure and weight of my arms so this is invalid for me…. thank god for customization….

I thought pulling the handbrake also damaged it? Shouldn’t you be pulling it back with the release button engaged, and let go off the button when you feel you pulled it back far enough?

Where I live we are taught by driving instructors to leave the car in gear at stop lights. You can be failed on your driving test if you put it into neutral.

That’s what driving instructors teach people around here too, but I guess they just don’t care much about the cars they’re using. At least the driving schools here in South Tyrol/Italy get new cars every 2 years, they don’t really think about how long the car will stay on the road or if it will be worn out after its life as a car for driving school
